AccChecker was born from the realization that existing MSAA tools, such as Inspect or AccExplorer, provided in-depth details on the implementation, but no information whether that implementation is correct or not. AccChecker comes in three modes – a Graphical User Interface (GUI) tool for the initial investigations of UIs, a set of simple APIs for easily creating automatic test cases, and a command-line tool for batch processing. Using the GUI tool, a tester can easily scan a UI and review the list of errors and warnings. Then, using the per-issue documentation, the tester can determine why each particular issue has occurred, what the implications may be on a users with disabilities, and how to fix the issue. Once all issues have been fixed, the tester can use the APIs to create regression tests. Finally, the APIs cannot be used for any reason, the tester can use the command-line mode of the tool to create tests in a batch file.

New Post: Does this work with Web Sites?
The bug is "ElementHasNoName" on the TextBox and the xaml code is below:

seems that the AccChecker will get the content of text rather than name when checking the name. But the content of text is input by user and I don't know how to fix it in xaml.

<span style="font-size:9.0pt; font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif"">I got the same problem. I dug through the source code and it looks like it's failing because it's trying to access the OperatingSystemSKU property from Win32_OperatingSystem, which is not
available on Windows XP. Running it on Windows 7 should work, but I think this is a bug which is causing it to fail in XP.

I got the same problem. I dug through the source code and it looks like it's failing because it's trying to access the OperatingSystemSKU property from Win32_OperatingSystem, which is not available on Windows XP. Running it on Windows 7 should
work, but I think this is a bug which is causing it to fail in XP.

You can download the binaries from the Releases location. The latest source code is also available.

UI Accessibility Checker (or AccChecker) enables testers to easily discover accessibility problems with Microsoft Active Accessibility (MSAA) and other User Interfaces (UI) implementations for Windows. AccChecker was born from the realization that existing Windows Automation API tools, such as Inspect, provided in-depth details on the implementation, but no information whether that implementation is correct or not.

Then, using the per-issue documentation, the tester can determine why each particular issue has occurred, what the implications may be on users with disabilities, and how to fix the issue. Once all issues have been fixed, the tester can use the APIs to create regression tests. Finally, if the APIs cannot be used for any reason, the tester can use the command-line mode of the tool to create tests in a batch file.

AccChecker uses a plug-in architecture, which allows 3rd party developers to create additional verifications. The verifications provided in AccChecker out-of-the-box include:

Verifications for MSAA and UIA

Verifications for the MSAA and UIA tree integrity, such as child-parent relationships or bounding rectangles

Verification for keyboard navigation by tabbing

A simplified screen reader which shows the textual information available to a real screen reader

AccChecker source code and binaries are published as a contribution from Microsoft to the Accessibility Interoperability Alliance. The license under which AccChecker is published should allow 3rd party companies to use the code for any purpose, such as porting the tool to other operating systems, or incorporating portions of the code in independent products.

Resources:

Prioritized Errors - When you are configuring AccChecker you can choose to view all or prioritized errors. When you are reviewing each error, a prioritized result will be shown in each column

Save and Reload Files - Now when you attach AccChecker logs to bugs, others can open up that log and review what you found.

Background Mode - Instead of running AccChecker on a single Window, AccChecker can run as you move through new Windows. This makes it much easier to test some Windows that must always have the focus.

UIA Verifications - AccChecker will now test your controls to make sure they work with the new UI Automation framework.

This version of AccChecker is supported on Windows Vista client and server SKU's as well as Windows 7 client and server SKU's.

Known Issues in the 2.0 relese

The Help file has not been updated to describe the new verifications

The option "Enable Supressions" can be checked, but has no functional impact when checked.

Installation Instructions
To start, unzip the file and run AccCheckUI.exe. A useful documentation is included on how to use the tool manually, investigate errors, suppress errors and warning, and create automated test cases for regression testing.

If you have questions, please post them on the Discusions forum, and we'll try to answer them as quickly as we can.

Thanks,

~The AccChecker Team

Released: UI Accessibility Checker v.2.0 (Jun 03, 2010)

We are excited to announce the release of AccChecker 2.0!

In addition to numerous bug fixes and usability improvements, these major features have been implemented:
